Saint Louis FC & Metro East Legacy FC Announce Affiliation Partnership

ST. LOUIS, MO (Friday, April 28, 2017) – Saint Louis FC is pleased to announce Metro East Legacy FC as an official affiliated partner club.  The partnership will see the two soccer organizations collaborate in the areas of player, coach and business development with the goal of improving the overall level of soccer in both their respective clubs as well as the larger soccer community in the region.
On the announcement of the affiliation, Saint Louis FC Academy Director, Blake Decker, said, “We are extremely excited to add such a quality organization to our growing community of affiliated clubs.  Metro East Legacy FC has distinguished itself in the area over the past several years by having a clear vision of player and club development as well as demonstrating the ability to execute their vision. “
The Saint Louis FC affiliate project, launched 3 years ago, was created as a way to bring together clubs who have a shared vision of long-term player, coach and business development in order to work with one another to more effectively achieve the goals of each organization.
“This partnership is a positive development, not only for Saint Louis FC, Metro East Legacy and the other affiliated clubs like SLSG, but for the entire Metro East Illinois soccer community,” said SLSG Illinois Girls Director of Coaching, Shawn Hewitt.  “Having collaborated with Drew and James unofficially for the past several years, I know the quality of leadership they bring and with both organizations working together to raise the level of the game in our region, the future is bright.”
This sentiment was echoed by Belle Clair Soccer League and Metro East Legacy President, Luis Naranjo, “We are honored to be a part of this partnership and it speaks volumes about our organization's mission and values, it's growth, and strategic direction.  This partnership will allow us to continue to provide the best soccer experience through expanded opportunities for players, coaches, and our staff.  We look forward to working with everyone at St. Louis FC to grow and strengthen this alliance and continue to grow the beautiful game in our area.”
As a part of the affiliation, Metro East Legacy FC and Saint Louis FC will collaborate on best practices in the areas of technical, club and business development in order to help improve the quality of the developmental environment for coaches and players.
James Chambers, Assistant Director of Coaching at Legacy, commented, “Saint Louis FC is one of the leading clubs in the Midwest for providing top-notch training as well as a professional atmosphere.  This partnership will not only help to increase and identify the growth of talented players, but will also have a positive impact on the soccer community.”
As a part of the affiliation with Saint Louis FC, Metro East Legacy will have access to the SLSG Coaching Development Program, Living Legacy Scholarship Program, Collegiate Placement seminars hosted twice per year as well as an additional pathway for the most talented Metro East Legacy players to continue their development.
“The Saint Louis FC-Legacy FC Partnership is a great opportunity for our elite players,” commented Metro East Legacy FC Director of Coaching, Drew Crawford. “With the partnership it gives our players a defined pathway to the highest leagues in youth soccer. We are excited to work side by side with Saint Louis FC and develop the next group of young talent in the Metro East.”
Metro East Legacy, along with each of the other four St. Louis FC affiliate clubs, maintains its’ independence as a youth soccer organization.  The Saint Louis FC affiliate program is based on the belief that autonomous and independent clubs working in cooperation with other like-minded clubs will have a greater and more positive impact on the soccer community and player development environment in the region when compared to an ‘every club for itself’ mentality.
According to SLSG Illinois Program Director, Dale Schilly, “Competition on the field is essential and is a key piece of player development; however, at the end of the day, we all want the same thing for our players.  We want to create individual pathways for each player to achieve his or her maximum potential as a player and a person.  That could mean making a high school varsity team, playing college soccer or, for a very talented few, representing the United States as a member of the National team or playing at the professional level.  Working together ensures, that we, as the soccer community in this region, are maximizing the number of pathways we create for players, whether they live in Quincy, Carbondale, Collinsville, Springfield, St. Louis or Belleville.”
